MCP tools

Storm serves MCP over Streamable HTTP at /mcp. Turn it on in Settings › AI access; each AI app authenticates with its own key from Settings › Devices & access. This list is generated from the server's source, so it is the set the current release offers. Agents in a session never get delete_note.

Read

Offered whenever MCP is on.

ToolWhat it does
list_vaultsList the vaults on this Storm server, with their ids, names and note counts. Call this first — every other tool needs a vault id.
get_vaultDescribe one vault: its note count, its folders, and the description its owner wrote for it.
searchFull-text search one vault, returning matching notes with a highlighted snippet from each. The fastest way to find a note.
get_noteRead one note in full: its markdown content and its metadata.
get_related_notesNotes related to this one: those linking to it, and those sharing its tags. Every relation is exact and says why it is one — there is no semantic guessing here.
list_tagsEvery tag in a vault with how many notes carry it.
recent_notesNotes opened most recently, across every vault. Good for 'what was I working on'.
get_note_historyA note's revision history: version numbers, when each was written and by which device. Content is not included — fetch one with get_note_version.
get_note_versionThe full text of one earlier revision of a note.
list_scriptsThe kit vault's canonical scripts: names, sizes, modified times, Sorted. Optionally filter to one topic with prefix (e.g. 'psi-item-import/').
get_scriptFetch one canonical script from the kit vault by name (relative to its 'scripts/' root): its full text, size and vault-relative path.

Write

Offered only while Settings › AI access › Let them create, edit and delete is on. Updates carry the version you read, so a note edited elsewhere in the meantime is merged rather than overwritten.

ToolWhat it does
create_noteCreate a new note. Fails if the path is already taken. The note is stamped `source: ai` in its frontmatter so it is obvious later who wrote it.
update_noteReplace a note's content. Requires the base_version you read, so a note edited elsewhere is merged rather than overwritten. If the result says merged or conflict, the returned content is the server's — re-read before editing again.
delete_noteDelete a note. Storm has no trash: the file is removed from the vault immediately. Only the server's version history still holds the text.
create_scriptCreate a canonical script in the kit vault — the one place agents may store runnable code. name is relative to the vault's 'scripts/' root and must end in an allowed extension; content is the full text. Fails if the name is already taken; use update_script to change one. Scripts cannot be stored in any other vault.
update_scriptReplace an existing script in the kit vault. name must end in an allowed extension; content is the full text. Fails if no such script exists — use create_script to add one.

Agent sessions only

Offered to agents running in a Storm session, never to outside AI apps.

ToolWhat it does
session_contextRead the note this agent session was started from: its vault and note ids, title, path, version and full markdown. Takes no arguments.
